Location
Kentfield is just south of San Rafael. The population was 6,351 at the 2000 census. The ZIP code is 94904, and is shared with the neighboring community of Greenbrae. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.0 square miles, of which, 3.0 square miles of it is land and 0.33% is water.

Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 6,351 people in Kentfield.. There were 2,506 households out of which 34.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.3% were married couples living together, 7.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% were non-families. The median income for a household in the CDP was $117,457, and the median income for a family was $154,673.

Public Schools
The Kentfield area is served by two public school districts; Kentfield School District for elementary and middle school, and Tamalpais Union High School District, for high school students who will attend Redwood High School in Larkspur.

Kentfield School District is a small district with two schools serving the communities of Kentfield and Greenbrae. The total enrollment of Kentfield District is just under 1,00.
Tamalpais Union High School District provides secondary school education to students coming from ten elementary districts in Marin County, including the Kentfield School District. It includes three comprehensive high schools, all of which have been designated as California Distinguished Schools, and two alternative schools.
